Blue-Streaked Lory

Male slightly larger.

characteristics

Color: predominately bright red plumage " blue stripe behind eye " light-blue streaks on upper back
Wings: black and red
Underside: belly and thighs red with blackish markings
Tail: brownish-black and red
Beak: orange
Eye: ring around the eye black " iris reddish-brown
Legs: grey-black

Males a little brighter, larger cheek patches and more extensive blue streaking.

Behaviour: Flying birds call continuously " Usually seen in pairs but also as single birds and groups up to eight " Vocalization: Shrill screech and high pitched whistle.

reproduction/life span

Little known from the wild. " In captivity: 2 eggs w nestling period as long as 12 weeks.

diet

Wild: : Little known visits coconut and sago palm plantations
Zoo: 30% nectar, 30% fruit & vegetables (kale, grapes, apples, cantaloupe etc&), 30% bird of paradise pellets, 10% plants flowers and other novelty items.

habitat/range

Habitat: Found in mangroves, coconut groves, plantations, secondary forest along coast and primary forest inland
Range: Island of the Tanimbar group, Indonesia.
