Trichoglossus euteles

size

Length. 10 in
Wing: 4.8- 5.2in
Tail: 3.5 - 4.2 in
Beak: 0.55-0.66 in
Weight: about 3oz

characteristics

All green with lighter yellowish green under parts and olive-yellow head
Beak: orange
Eye: ring around the eye narrow and grayish " iris red
Legs: gray-black

Males head slightly brighter.

Behaviour: Flocks of over 100 gather outside of breeding season " Vocalization: Shrill screech.

reproduction/life span

Little known from the wild " Breed perhaps Sept. to Oct " In captivity: incubation 23 days " 3 eggs.

diet

Wild: Visits flowering trees and shrubs
Zoo: 30% nectar, 30% fruit & vegetables (kale, grapes, apples, cantaloupe etc&), 30% bird of paradise pellets, 10% plants flowers and other novelty items.

habitat/range

Habitat: Primary and secondary forest and savanna woodland " Cultivated and settled areas on the more arid islands " Found in lowlands to 7550 ft.
Range: Timor and surrounding islands, east Indonesia in Lesser Sundra islands.
