Oregon Safe Kids Day
Saturday, May 8 | Time: 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Join the Oregon Safe Kids Coalition to kick off National SAFE KIDS Week. Oregon SAFE KIDS Day will feature exhibits, prizes, safety tips and hands-on activities for children and parents.

National SAFE KIDS Week is an annual event that highlights prevention of childhood injuries. Free with regular zoo admission.

Celebrating Wildflowers
Saturday, May 15 | Time: 10 a.m-5 p.m.

Join the Bureau of Land Management at the Zoo for this fun and beautiful celebration of native wildflowers in the Northwest.

Fun for everyone includes interesting exhibits, children's activities and craft projects, information about nature-scaping your garden in order to attract wildlife, and scenic tours of the zoo's native plants.

Captive Shore, a painting by RamaRama, our artistic elephant, loves to paint. Rama is having his very own gallery debut at the Mark Woolley Gallery in the Pearl District -- and you're invited! Rama's painting, Captive Shore, is on the right -- click it to see a larger version of the painting with more information about this very special exhibition.

An annual event by Oregon Episcopal School. Students show off their amazing electronic and computer-controlled creations.

Wildlife Conservation Lecture Series: Forgotten Pollinators
with Stephen L. Buchmann
Tuesday, May 25 | Time: 7:00 p.m.

Presented in cooperation with the Xerces Society.

Eagle Canyon Exhibit Grand Opening
Saturday-Sunday, May 29 - 31 | Time: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Eagle Canyon tells the stories of bald eagles and endangered salmon, while stressing the importance of forest streams and rivers. The exhibit also highlights how both species play an integral role in the Northwest ecosystem.
Grand opening activities include interactive games, such as:

"Feeding the Forest" where visitors discover how eagles and salmon help maintain healthy forests
"Who has a Rocky Start?" which explores the adventures and perils of life as a salmon
"What's your Wingspan" where visitors compare their arm span to an eagle's wingspan
"Build an Eagle's nest" where children can help create a life-size bald eagle nest

Other grand opening activities include an up-close visit with Chinook, the zoo's education bald eagle, and a visit with Rock E. Goat, the zoo's costumed character. In addition, visitors can test their knowledge of Northwest fish and plants with interactive games and "hunts" in the exhibit. Storytellers share fascinating tales of Native American lore, while ZooGuides highlight the featured animals.

Eagle Canyon Grand Opening is a Rose Festival sanctioned event.
