DEVON
Devon, the Oregon Zoo’s 16-year-old swamp monkey is the proud father of daughter Brie (3 years) and sons Gouda (2 years) and Bleu (1 year).
Shortly after the birth of one of his babies, zoological curator Chris Pfefferkorn said, “We don’t know the sex yet because both mother and father are pretty protective of their new baby.”
Devon and his mate, 13-year-old Dannon came to the zoo in 1994 on breeding loan from the San Diego Zoo.
EDDIE
Eddie is the Oregon Zoo's six-year-old southern sea otter and father of son Oz, the first southern sea otter to be born in a zoo or aquarium to have survived.
Eddie spent his early days after stranding at the Marine Mammal Center at Sausalito, Calif. He was later moved to the Sea Otter Research and Conservation Program at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He was underweight for his year class and judged to not be a good candidate for release.
Eddie and his mate Thelma, who was also not releasable, took up residence at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington, until their new home at the Oregon Zoo was completed in 2000.
SPIKE
Spike, a three-year-old red-flanked duiker, and his 10-year old mate, Garnet produced a female calf, Kandungo last January. Spike, who arrived at the zoo in 2002 from San Diego Zoo, shares his exhibit with three other duikers. While not endangered, the red-flanked duiker is conservation dependent, which means it has high enough population numbers to have a sustainable population, but it is threatened. " People are hunting these animals relentlessly for meat to feed their families," said Chris Pfefferkorn, zoo curator and American Zoo and Aquarium Association’s studbook keeper for red-flanked duiker.
