Wage: $10.00/hour, non-exempt

Position begins late March and ends mid-June 2003, with a duration of approximately 12 weeks.
Teaching Schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., from April 1st to June 12, 2003. Two ninety-minute classes each day, contingent upon enrollment.
Summary: Develop and present educational activities for 3 to 5 year-old children attending classes at the zoo, while parents are in attendance. Utilize classroom facilities, common classroom materials, zoo exhibits and other zoo resources to teach developmental skills and content while promoting parent/child interaction and appreciation for wildlife. Supervision is received from the Education Program Coordinator.
Requirements: High School diploma or G.E.D., and two years experience presenting educational materials in formal or non-formal settings for children K-12. Preference given to candidates with at least two years of college level coursework. An understanding of animals in a zoological setting and wildlife conservation is helpful. All applicants are subject to a criminal background check.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and experience with interactive teaching methodologies
Ability to develop lesson plans.
Ability to interact with adults (parents) effectively.
Extensive knowledge of age appropriate learning activities
Knowledge of age appropriate craft activities
Knowledge of age appropriate games and songs
Knowledge of appropriate concepts and skills that can be taught to the age group
Knowledge of behavioral and academic capabilities of 3 to 5 year old children
