Color: body gray " head brown & chestnut " face yellow-orange " legs black & chestnut " rump & tail white " infants mostly chestnut with black face
Appearance: pot-bellied because digestive system adapted to ferment large quantities of leaves
Burping: because of gas from leaf fermentation
Eyes: almond-shaped

behavior

arboreal " diurnal
Communication: visual " stares, grimaces, & facial expressions
Groups: social " 4-15 with 1-2 adult males for 2-4 adult females plus young
Dominance: males dominant " each sex has own dominance hierarchy

reproduction/lifespan

Lifespan: 24 years in captivity
Gestation: 165-190 days

Wild: wide variety of leaves & certain fruits
Zoo: leafy vegetables & high-fiber leaf-eating biscuits
