Artist Registration Information

Dear Artists,

The Oregon Zoo is celebrating our 16th Annual Zoolights Winter Festival this December. We would like to invite you to participate in our Artist Market during this popular holiday event.

Zoolights has become a Portland tradition attracting over 75,000 visitors. During the Festival, the Zoo is ablaze with the glow of more than 500,000 holiday lights, which decorate the ZooTrain, animal buildings, trees and other spectacular displays. In addition to our Artist Market, nightly musical performances, theatrical entertainment, a delicious holiday buffet in our Cascade Grill and other special activities attract and delight visitors from all over the region.

Artisans and craftspeople of all mediums are encouraged to apply to join the Market. We are especially interested in recycled, renewable, and sustainable materials. Animal themes are not required and we want to represent a multitude of ideas and talents. We suggest items that offer a range of prices.

COMMITMENT: Zoolights runs nightly November 28th through December 28th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday). Various time commitment options are available: one night only, one week, every Wednesday night, or whatever suits your schedule. The time commitment each night is from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. Friday & Saturday). Load-in & set up start at 4:30pm.

LOGISTICS: Our Artist Market is centrally located on ZooStreet across from the Bear Walk Café. The Market is an indoor heated venue that is a welcome and attractive respite from the winter weather. Each artist will be provided with an 8 ‘ table, linens and chairs. You should provide hanging fixtures for items that require it – our walls are not able to withstand nails and screws. The Market is scheduled to provide to our visitors a variety of art, craft, price and style to choose from.

FEE: A 25% donation on all sales goes back to the Oregon Zoo and supports the care and enrichment of our animals and conservation programs. This donation is collected and turned in at the end of each night. Last year the market grossed over $13,000 in 30 days.

HOW TO APPLY: Please complete and return the registration form by October 31, 2003. Please indicate on the application form: any needs or requirements you have, approximate size of your work, price range and a brief description of your work. Please submit color copies, pictures or slides of your work with your application (sorry, these materials are not returnable). Artists will be selected & scheduled based on several criteria: 1st forms returned get 1st choice of dates, medium, style & price . A confirmation letter will be sent notifying your acceptance.
